Bytown was the original name of our nation’s capital; it therefore seemed proper that, like the original New Testament churches we read of in the Bible, we should take the name of our city as part of our church name. Hence, Bytown Baptist Church.
Bytown Baptist Church is the result of years of evangelistic effort and prayer. For over 20 years, Pastor Tim Peachman laboured faithfully in prayer and open-air evangelism in the city of Ottawa, as he endeavoured to establish his Grace Baptist Mission (a church plant mission from Calvary Baptist Church in Cornwall, Ontario) into a proper New Testament church. Over the years the Lord added to Grace Baptist Mission a diverse and spiritually vibrant group of individuals who now compose the church family of Bytown Baptist.
The basic objective of Bytown Baptist both corporately and as individuals is to glorify God, and enjoy Him now and forever. It is the desire of our local assembly to know God and make Him known to those who are weary and heavy laden in our community, our city, our province and our country. We are a small group of saints but by God’s grace we work in hope, serving both the community of believers through our teaching ministries, and the lost through our various evangelistic efforts.
The members of Bytown Baptist take the Bible and the teachings of the Word of God seriously; God's Word is our one and only rule for all matters of faith and practice. We believe, preach and teach the doctrines of the Word of God. Please see the "Our Beliefs" menu on the right hand side of this page for details on our doctrinal distinctives.
We hope you will come to worship the Lord our God and Saviour Jesus Christ with us soon, at one of our services!
